Welcome

I have never considered myself much of a reader but an avid learner.  Listed below are the books I have read that are currently influencing my thinking

What I have read recently

Business

Continuous Improvement

BE*Know*Do: Leadeship the Army Way (R. Cavanaugh, F. Hesselbein, 2015)

2023

Frances Hesselbein (1915 to 2022, 107 years) is the primary author and was the CEO of the Girl Scouts of the USA from 1976 to 1990. Many, Many great lessons here.

Introducing NLP: Psychological Skills for Understanding and Influencing...

2022

Great overview of NLP and its use in therapy and in practical application

12 Winning Strategies For Building a Talent Develop. Firm (Stephen Cohen)

2022

An excellent guide for not only talent development but any business.  The author forces some tough questions to be asked of the entrepreneur.

The Richest Man of Babylon (George S. Clason)

2022

A classsic read that should be encouraged to those in their early 20's and seeking to achieve financial goals

Predictable Revenue: Turn Your Business ... (Aaron Ross, M. Tyler, 2012)

2022

Bottom line - an organization needs a 3:1 ratio of lead generators to closers AND a disciplined system (CRM) to manage the funnel.  Not relevant to very small businesses.

Intelligent Analysis (Jay Grusin, Steve Lindo, 2021)

2022

Business development and life in general can be distilled to a practical art of balancing risk between certainty and uncertainty.  Grusin and Lindo provide the mechanics needed for decision making.

Call Sign Chaos (Jim Mattis, Bing West, 2019)

2022

Chronicles the career of Jim Mattis (army to Sec Def under Trump).  What stuck here was a description of Commander's Intent

Pleasure

Social Awareness

The Making of the Atomic Bomb (Richard Rhodes, 1986)

2023

Puts in perspective the names of physicists learned of in University but never discussed wrt their lives (Bohr, Planck, Opperheimer, others)

Six Tires, No Plan (Michael Rosenbaum, 2012)

2023

Incredible tale of the rise of Discount Tire stores on the effort and philosophy of one man, Bruce Halle.  Excellent description of the sacrifice and work required to be number one.

Scientist. E.O. Wilson: A Life in Nature (Richard Rhodes, 2021)

2023

Biography of a great biologist committed to his art as the world around him had more shiny things available as distractions.

The Wright Brothers (David McCullough, 2015)

2023

Start to finish biography of Orville and Wilbur Wright and the discovery of controlled flight.  Their patent on 'wing warping' was rejected by the military as too innovative for "modern" warfare.

I'm Still Here (Austin Channing Brown, 2018)

2022

This led to a huge correction in my thinking about what it means to "hear" diversity.  It is all about recognizing a different voice over making all voices the same.

Add a footnote if this applies to your business
